This is just to say "Thank you" for your time in sorting out the search on tagging in reply to my request.
In the program for editing people there is a field at the end of last name to put Esq. 1 11 111 Jn Sn, with the older program this field would take 4 digits but now if you want to type anything into this field you can only type 2 digits.
The reason as I explained before is that if you have 4 5 or more people called Joe Bloggs in your tree it is difficult to find the right person so I was putting the year of birth in that field so you would get Joe Bloggs 1777 when searching to do any reports or tag in photos and anything else, I know you get Joe Bloggs 3 cousin 3 times removed or Joe bloggs related by 10 steps but you may have a 2 Joe bloggs related by 10 steps
I have been putting the last 2 digits in IE 77 for 1777 but Joe bloggs 1777 looks better than Joe Blogs 77.
I was thinking of going back to the old program but if this could be reincorperated into the new program it would help or even a field to put the year of birth or even the year of birth being displayed when displaying a person whilst searching.
Yours Colin Rout.
I wanted to do a Family Book with all the generations I have in my family tree but was told that it will only support 5 generations. Will the capability of added generations be available soon?. It would be sad to have information on all the generations and not be able to include them all in a book.
I hope the development team will realize how important it is to those of us who have more than the 5 generations to be able to display them in the Time Book.
I see you are from a place called Trafford in PA. Do you by any chance have Traffords in your family tree or know of Traffords there. Just curious because I have a bunch way back to a Trafford, England. Like I said though, it goes a long way back.
I have no Trafford's in my family tree but I do believe hearing that our little town was named for Trafford, England. However, I don't have any information on why it is so named. If I can find out I will certainly send the info on to you.
The Problem i have been having between my online account and the software is that the software does not allow for passwords that begin with numbers. My online password begins with a number. Are there any plans on fixing this particular short-coming with the application?
I downloaded the family tree builder, unticked all the options for 'install toolbar, add as search option etc' and it DID IT ANYWAY. I've uninstalled it all manually, but still firefox occasionally decides to search your website instead of using Google and it's doing my head in. So I suggest you make your product installer do what the end user asks them to do.
Not only that, it reset all the settings on my plugins! With at least 15 of them, it took me quite some time to get it all back to normal.
I also tried to use your celebrity look-a-like thing today, something which my friends and I have used frequently in the past, and now I've discovered you have to install your toolbar to use it ... er, no. Please stop being so invasive. You've ruined perfectly good products by shoddy programming and toolbar insistance. You should be ashamed.
I don't know how many people are working there at any one time, but it seems like you could have a certain number of hours per day(I would assume it would probably be Israel time) in which someone could chat with customer service. Obviously those hours would not be very convenient for most people in the world, but at least they would know that if they really want to talk with someone, they can know there will be someone there during that time, and can make arrangements to do so at that time. I would think this would be by way of online chat rather than telephone.
This was a feature that we did have available for a short period of time, but we found that it did not adequately help our users, and that it was much more efficient for us to concentrate on answering our users through mail. This way we can answer more of the hundreds of mails that we receive each and every day.
It would be great if site members in the "Send Email to All Members" list could be ordered by first or last name. Or if they could be put into groups (by different family names, for example), like a Yahoo! address book.
If you go to your site members page, and sort the view according to last name (or first), and then choose to send an email to all members, then you will see all the addresses in alphabetical order according to last name (or first name).
We do not yet have the groups feature available. I will make sure to pass on that request for future consideration.
Thanks for your response. Yes, I can sort "Site members" by first or last name but the "Send email to all members" list can't be sorted that way. Thanks for forwarding my suggestions.
I would like an option in FTB to show only one person in a married couple as the parent of a child, without automatically linking the other marriage partner as the child's parent.
Parents don't always come in neat sets - a child may have been from a previous relationship. That relationship may not have been a marriage. If children could be shown as linked to just one person out of a couple, or two separate people, this would allow for different circumstances.
At the moment any child added is automatically assigned to both partners or has to have a separate entry as an unrelated person. Neither of these options gives everyone an accurate place on a family tree.
If you know the one parent add an unknown parent then add child, if you already have the child on the tree, create a partner for the parent then attach the child to these parents. All children have 2 parents. A child is not automatically added to the parents it is the editor that adds it to a family.
Thanks for your suggestions - I do, of course, realise that in actuallity a child has two parents but on my family tree what I would like to show is a clear distinction between natural parent and step-parent.
I have, for example, tried to set up an entry where the wife of an existing married couple has a child from a previous relationship. Her husband would be the step-father of that child, another man the natural father. The natural father is entered and shown as a 'Spouse' of the woman but her husband can not be shown as 'Step-father'. So, even though the married couple brought the child up the chart shows them as being childless. The facts are right but the story it tells is not!
Obviously, I can add notes to that effect in another section but it would be helpful to have a 'step-parent' indicator as well as natural or adopted parent options.
I asked about this more than 2 years ago, but since nothing has changed, it needs re-asking. Why can't we have more than 12-13 pictures in the Home page Random photos slide show? The answer given back then, that it rotates through the extra pictures, is false because it doesn't rotate the pictures. Why won't you allow more than 12-13 pictures in Home page Random photos slide show?
I totally agree with this request. My family members also have different first names, even surnames, women remarry and take new husband names..
All those names I have entered as additional names in FTB. It would be nice that search searches through those additional names (not only the main one) and also that those names are posted on web site and visible to the members. All addresses are displayed but names are not!?
